Canet/Sitges Carnaval weekend!

So all of the amazing fun carnival festivities continued.

On Saturday I spent the evening/night/morning celebrating with my friends in Canet. We went out to dinner, where I ran into a few of my students and their parents. Everyone was dressed-up, but the funny part is that everyone went about in the restaurant as if we were in our normal get up. I think I might have just been abnormally excited about the whole weekend.

After a yummy dinner and looots of alcohol, we went over to the cultural center of the city, where they were holding a dance party. Marc, Lluis, and the rest of the gang dressed up as characters from Grease, and I went as a lone butterfly, with awesome wings, might I add!!

We danced and drank the night/morning away and it was marvelous.

The next day, I had planned along with Erika to go to Sitges, which is supposedly THE place to be for carnival. It's the biggest gay city in Spain and they definitely know how to get down!!

The city is just 30 minutes south of Barcelona, so we just hopped on the party train and arrived in no time. The city itself is gorgeous. Just a little town with a beautiful beach and tiny hillsides. But boy, oh boy! when this holiday comes around they sure know how to party! (Actually, im sure they're pretty crazy year round...the biggest club in spain, Pacha, is here, and now it's a chain all over the world)

As soon as we got off the train, we could hear the music pumpin' from all directions. And it was only noon. There were non-stop parades all over the city from before we got there until after we left.

During the day we walked around the city and took in the sunset from the shoreline. Then it was off to get ready for a whole night of dance parties in the street. My favorite!!!!

Here's the kids parade that took place during the day

I love this kids expression. This was right before the threw a fist full of confetti at us.

I heart street musicians

The girl in this picture is dressed as a princess and I love that her unicorn balloon looks like its flying sans string

creepy face mask/carnival outfit that lots of men were wearing

of course there was a simpsons related float!

Smurfs!

Umm....yeah

Rainbow flags hanging over the street party

Thank you for an awesome weekend Sitges!!!!

Parade Day!!

On the Friday after Dijous Gras, all of the elementary schools in Canet parade through the town. Its not a fancy-schmancy parade, but everyone dresses up and there are even cars between groups that play really loud and random music (e.g. shakira and gnarls barkley). Oh, and it just wouldn't be carnival without TONS of confetti!

My school is a "green school", so our costumes were made out of recyclable materials. We made them mostly out of colorful plastic sheets and lots of imagination.

It was more organized chaos than parade, but it was so much fun. All of the parents lined up on the side of the streets and this is what they saw:
