Actually it was freezing.
Ryanair has crazy cheap flights during the winter months, and when Erika randomly found out in december that flights for travel in january were 1.07 € each way, we booked it immediately.
I'm not too big in traveling when its cold, but at that price, it'd be dumb not to go. I've been before, when it was sunny and warm in august, but there were definitely some major things i never got around to. Most importantly, i HAD to see Guernica at the Reina Sofia Museum.

Although we only had a weekend, we packed in some Madrid essentials. One of my favorite things about this city is Parque del Buen Retiro. The problem however is that when its 3° C and raining outside, you dont really feel like taking a stroll through a park. And i miss my row boats! Well, guess what, ill be stopping by again in April.
Summer
Winter...this was literally a week before we went. This is not normal Madrid weather either.
This is where we had really yummy pastries! The place is called La Mallorquina, and they have really delicious everything. Normally people just buy something to-go from the downstairs area, but we decided that this called for a table and some necessary sitting and chatting time. We sat upstairs at a cute little table where we had a view of the street below and some very welcome sunshine coming through our windows.

Then we wandered around Puerta del Sol, which is the huge plaza where 8 of Spains main roads all converge. This little fella is famous here:
It's a bear eating the fruit from a arbutus (also called a Strawberry tree) tree. It's also Madrid's coat of arms.
